Purpose of the Trip
The purpose of this trip is four-fold:
1. Exposure to the Latin American context and Colombian culture
2. Experience God’s heart for Colombia and Latin America
3. Serving the vision of the national church and career missionaries for the development of the people in the communities.
4. Praying together with AZAG & AGWM leadership, capturing memories, and sharing stories of missional impact upon returning home.
Latin America is well known for high levels of poverty, but also home to vibrant centers of entrepreneurship and efforts to raise up the impoverished. It’s ‘now or never’ in reaching the next generation of Latin America for Jesus. Our hosts will be career missionaries Brian and Raquel Correia. This lush and strategic region is even more rich with Kingdom possibilities.
As the National Directors of Convoy of Hope in Colombia, the Correias have dedicated their lives to serving the local community, and we are honored to support their efforts. Our team will travel to the vibrant city of Popayan, where we will dive into a variety of ministry projects, including kids' ministry, light construction initiatives such as cleaning and painting, food distribution programs, evangelism outreach, and many other exciting opportunities to serve and make a difference.
Whether you're a seasoned believer or just starting on your faith journey, this trip promises to be a life-changing experience that will challenge you and leave a lasting impact on the community in Colombia. -
What to Expect
Is Colombia Safe?
Yes. Colombia is not what we see in the movies. Most of Colombia lives at peace and is unaffected by rebel groups or drug traffickers. There are still isolated areas of concern, but they are easy to avoid because they have a reputation for illegal activity. The police and military have frequent checkpoints that help make many regions safe.
What is the weather like?
Beautiful. Colombia’s weather is entirely based on the Andes Mountains. Popayan is at 5,800 ft, making the average temperature around 80 degrees. But it can be hotter or cooler (especially at night). The lower the altitude, the hotter it can get. Just 500ft lower can make a difference. The equator passes through Colombia, which makes the sun very strong.
What are the churches like?
Many of the region's churches are smaller than the US, with less than 50 members. They tend to be more traditional than churches in the US in terms of their members' conduct, dress, and style of worship and preaching. As you prepare to minister, consider being more humble in how you present yourself and your ministry. Regardless, the churches will receive you with lots of love and will be overwhelmed with joy that you are there with them.
Where will we be staying?
You will be staying in a normal American-standard hotel. Unless we travel to more remote regions (which will be discussed in the planning of your trip), your accommodations should not feel very different.
What is the food like in Colombia?
Delicious. Lunch is the main meal in Colombia, which means we will eat a full breakfast, a large lunch, and a small dinner. Lunch is typically a bowl of soup and then a plate of food, normally having protein, rice, salad, beans, and fruit. You should not encounter situations where you are eating extremely foreign foods. However, you are expected to finish your plate, especially when the local church prepares a meal.

What is AIM?
We go to the nations every year on short-term mission trips through Ambassadors In Mission (AIM), the short-term youth missions program of the Assemblies of God. We encourage every student to go on a foreign mission trip before they graduate high school.
AIM trips can either be stateside or international. AIM started in 1966 and now nearly 10,000 students participate on these trips each year. AIM is a coordinated effort between students, leaders, missionaries and host churches. With Assemblies of God missions in over 250 countries, the opportunities are endless!
